Author Lori Starling is offering a variety of writing classes and workshops this fall!

Lori Starling is a writer, parent, and Ashtabula native. She has an MFA in Creative Writing, as well as a BA in English & Creative Writing with various business and tech associate degrees. Her writing can be found in places such as One Green Planet, ZOLA Magazine, Bookstr.com, Life in 10 Minutes Lit Magazine, The Daily Drunk, WriteNow Literary Magazine, Beyond Queer Words, MAW Poetry Magazine, Cathexis Northwest Press, and more. She has worked many years in the non-profit sector, and has spent the past six years as a teacher in both K-12 schools and on the collegiate level. Her first children’s book, “Toby Wears a Tutu,” was selected for review by Publisher’s Weekly and debuted in January 2021.

Looking to add something new to your children’s homeschool routine? Throughout the fall season, students will have a voice in choosing what books they would like to do a study on, and will learn more than just state-standard writing techniques. This 1-hour class will be interactive.

Spoken Word Poetry 101
for teens & adults
with Lori Starling
Mondays, 8 weeks beginning Sept 18
5-6 p.m.
$20 class fee
Students need to bring their own pencil/pen and a journal or notebook.
Throughout this course, students will not only craft and workshop their own poems, but also learn about the importance of poetry being spoken. Speech and poetry writing techniques, articulation, and performance will be emphasized. Students will share their work in a spoken word poetry slam for friends and family on the last day of class.

Memoir Through Memories
for adults

Fridays, 8 weeks beginning Sept 22
11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
$15 class fee
Students need to bring their own pencil/pen and a journal or notebook. Take a stroll down memory lane and draft your own short memoir! In this class, students will learn to shape their own memories into a non-fiction memoir piece. The art of the memoir and its many different forms will be explored.
