Visual Arts Classes for Kids

The Visual Arts Department encourages creative stimulation and thought while providing an opportunity to experience the joy and satisfaction of creating works of art. A wide variety of visual arts classes and workshops are offered for students of all ages, including pottery, painting, sculpture, drawing, photography, knitting, and more. Individual instruction is available and outreach programming can also be arranged.

Claytivity
for grades 1 & up
with Erica Ledford
6 weeks beginning Monday Sept 14
5-5:30 p.m.
$50 class fee, $20 materials fee
limit of 9 students
Explore the endless possibilities the clay has to offer kids!  We will work on simple handbuilding projects, play with slip trailing, and experiment with different glazing techniques.

Mom & Me Art
for ages 2-5 & adults

4 weeks begins Monday Oct 5
11-11:30 a.m.
$25 class fee, $10 materials fee
Little ones will have fun while developing the fine & gross motor skills essential for starting school. Children must be accompanied by a parent/guardian in all classes. Adults attend for free. Dress for a mess!

Holiday Mom and Me
for ages 2-5 & adults

Homeschool Art
for grades 1 & up

We will focus on drawing skills and art appreciation.  Learn basic art concepts such as color theory, drawing, painting, & mixed media. Explore art examples and develop an expanded visual vocabulary, learning about techniques & materials.

Painting for Kids
for grades 1 & up

4:30-5:15 p.m.

Dive into the colorful world of painting techniques! We’ll create a different creative project each week.  We will explore watercolors, acrylics and inks.

Holiday Canvas Art for Kids

Each week we will paint a fun seasonal 8×10 canvas with acrylic paints.

Drawing for Kids

Create artwork using a variety of  drawing materials and mediums each week.

Holiday Themed Mixed Media Art for Kids

Create holiday artwork by mixing different mediums together. We’ll create collages, sculptures, and more.

Story Book Creation for Kids
for grades 1-6
with Ray Williams and Nancy Nelson-Brotz
8 weeks beginning Sept. 17
5-6pm
$65 class fee, $20 material fee
Students will work with Ray for the first 4 weeks creating a story to turn into a storybook. (May require some work outside of class!) The next 4 weeks will be creating illustrations with Nancy  to use with the story they have created.  We will then print the finished book!

Preschool Music
10-10:30 a.m.

As a start to a lifelong love of music, children will sing songs, play musical games, and more as we develop listening, social, and pre-reading skills. 

Preschool Art Expression
10:35-11:05 a.m.
with Nancy Nelson-Brotz
Children will explore the tools and materials used in making art, learning to make connections between their projects and stories, ideas, and the seasons. We’ll create with paint, paper, scissors, glue, and more, learning about the proper care and use of materials. Dress for a mess!
