Visual Arts Classes for Kids

Some classes are available both in-person and virtually. There is no materials fee charge for virtual classes. Students will need to obtain their own materials if attending virtually. Links are provided for purchasing materials via Amazon for convenience, however, students may purchase their materials anywhere they choose.

MONDAY

Whimsical Art for Stress Relief (virtual only)
for grades 2-6
with Nancy Mitchell
8 weeks beginning September 14
6-7 p.m.
$56 class fee
This class will teach creative, surreal painting using acrylics and focusing on nature & fantasy creatures.
Materials needed: acrylic paints, assorted size brushes, containers of water for cleaning brushes, canvas, cardboard, or poster board for each project.

TUESDAY

Famous Paintings (available in-person and virtual)
for grades 4-9

Maximum of 6 students in-person

Learn the basics of painting and color theory with a little art history as well! We’ll explore famous paintings from the past and learn tips and tricks to recreate them.

Claytivity

Maximum of 4 students
Students will work on a series of projects incorporating the basic methods of hand-building in clay, using their own creative ideas. Projects will be bisque fired and glazed to create permanent works of art.

Elements of Art for Homeschoolers (virtual)
for grades 1-6

Learn about the building blocks of art by creating your own. We’ll study a different element each class using materials from home (a materials list will be provided by the instructor before the first class.)

Drawing & Sketching

Maximum of 6 students
Learn techniques for perspective, tone, values, shape, and more. Open to both beginners and experienced artists — those with experience will be challenged.

FRIDAY

Preschool Art Expression (virtual)
for ages 3-5
with Nancy Mitchell

$56 class fee
Children will explore the tools and materials used in making art. We’ll create with paint, paper, scissors, glue, and lots of other fun materials. Students will learn to make connections between their projects and stories, ideas, and the seasons. They’ll receive instruction in the proper care and handling of materials, and will be encouraged to build confidence through doing. PLEASE NOTE: all students must be assisted by an adult at home during class time.
Projects: Sunflower Paintings, Into the Woods, Rainbow Fish, Autumn Tree, My Monster
Supplies needed: sturdy paper, cardboard or poster board, multi-colored construction paper, watercolor or tempera paint, paintbrushes, container of water for cleaning brushes, scissors, white glue, crayons, markers, paper plates, popsicle stick or wooden tongue depressors, multi-colored tissue paper. Optional extras: glitter, glue stick, googly eyes.

Homeschool Art (virtual)
for grades 1-6

These lessons are designed to teach basic art concepts such as color theory, drawing, painting, and mixed media. Students will study examples from art history and will develop an expanded visual vocabulary. Projects will be inspired by Leonardo da Vinci, Frida Kahlo, Marc Chagall, James Rizzo, and Norval Morrisseau.
