This year, we celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Ballet Theatre Ashtabula’s production of The Nutcracker!

Our story opens inside the grand and festive home of Dr. Stahlbaum, where a Christmas Eve party brings together family and friends. As heroine Clara and her friends eagerly anticipate holiday gifts and gingerbread treats, a light knock at the door heralds the arrival of the magical Herr Drosselmeyer, who sweeps into the room bringing a special gift for Clara: a handsome wooden Nutcracker doll.
Later that night, as snow falls softly outside the window and the family is tucked away in their warm winter beds, Clara’s fantastic adventure begins. Walls move up and out as the family’s Christmas tree grows to an enormous height! Suddenly, Clara’s Nutcracker doll comes to life, engaging in battle with the wicked Mouse Queen and her invading army of fighting mice. Smoking cannons roar and rumble as toy soldiers join the fight, and with Clara’s help, good triumphs over evil at last!
The Snow Queen arrives with her flurry of Snowflakes, bringing magic that transforms the Nutcracker into a handsome prince. Drosselmeyer sends Clara and the prince on a wondrous journey through the snowy pine forest to the Kingdom of Sweets and the enchanted palace of the Sugar Plum Fairy, where they are treated as honored guests at a gala which takes them around the world in just one magical night. When the festivities end, Clara wakes back in her home with her Nutcracker doll at her side, leaving you to decide for yourself if it was all
a dream, or an adventure to a magical world…
