Parachute Cloth Mural Technique Training for Artists
with Minneapolis Muralist Greta McLain
Sept. 9-10
10 a.m.-5 p.m. each day
$300 per person
Learn the technique involved in creating murals in the “parachute cloth method,” pioneered by the City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program. In this technique, the mural is not painted on a wall, but is painted onto fabric, assembled into larger panels, and then permanently adhered to a building wall, allowing the mural to be worked on in sections by community members of all ages, levels of experience, and physical ability.

Greta McLain has over 10 years of mural-making experience spent exploring the ways that art can bring communities together, the power of visual language to activate voice, and the potential of arts as a vehicle for hands-on organizing and educating.

This workshop is part of a larger community-based mural project that will work with local residents to complete a mural in downtown Ashtabula. After the workshop, we will be conducting additional painting parties, completing the mural, and installing it in downtown Ashtabula. Workshop participants are invited to be part of the process as we complete the mural. Participants will leave the workshop with the technical skills needed to work in this technique.
