The Christmas Truce of 1914 is one of the most remarkable incidents of World War I, and perhaps of all military history. Starting in some places on Christmas Eve and others on Christmas Day, the truce covered as much as two-thirds of the entire British-German front, with thousands of soldiers taking part. The unofficial ceasefires grew out of no single initiative, but spontaneously occurred in each area along the front, with soldiers exchanging food, playing soccer, and singing carols. The Good Life Singers’ concert is drawn from first-hand accounts in letters and diaries of the time, with some updated music and arrangements. The group will perform songs including “Christmas in the Trenches” by John McCutcheon, “I Miss You Most at Christmas Time,” “Over There,” and “P.S. I Love You.”
